Every business has it’s own challenges and the tasks are always unique. We don’t offer a ‘one size fits all’ solution, we work closely with our clients to ensure their refresh will take them in the direction they’re ultimately aiming to go, creating a great brand.
We’ve put together a few tips explaining what a brand actually is and how to define the brand’s identity:
Defining your brand
By defining your brand you will be providing a clear definition of who you are, what you do, and why your brand matters.
Most businesses probably already have an answer to the first two points however the challenging part is really pinpointing why your brand matters. This is where we step in to offer a helping hand; By offering support and guidance you will be able to explain what you do and why you matter in no time. This answer will then become your brand promise which is ultimately what will make you stand out in the market.
Being different and standing out is important for all businesses. It offers the ability to be unique and sell on value and not compete on price. Differentiation is proven to work due to how our brains are wired; Our brain learns how to tell things apart. Information is received and sent to our brain from our senses where it is then compared to what our brain has already stored. It sounds complex, but this simple exercise is what enables us to tell the difference between a cat and dog or an apple and pear etc. Our visual system is programmed to spot differences in all aspects of life, and this includes branding. When we see something new that is aesthetically pleasing, such as packaging design, a brand logo etc, we instinctively want to know more about it as it’s something new and unregistered in our brains.
The image your brand portrays to the world and the feeling your customers get from that impression is your identity. A visual identity is essential to not only establishing, but also maintaining a presence in the market. Turning complex ideas into a visual essence requires not only skill but also plenty of focus and patience. This process is different for all businesses and we never fully know what the process will reveal. At Designbury we explore a large variety of options until a final idea materializes.
All of the best and most influential brands stand for something; company values that stand out or a big innovative idea. Company symbols and logos can also be full of meaning and indeed become more powerful the more they are used. Great examples of such logos are: Apple, Nike, Audi.
For your brand to be competitive and stand out amongst the rest, it requires consistency across all elements of your business. Having a consistent presentation will reinforce customer expectations.
As part of this process we will help you to develop the following: Logo design, typography standards, a corporate colour palette, photographic / illustration style and visual guidelines.
